Road Middle School will offer the following Clubs in the 2007-2008
school year. The clubs listed have a staff or community member
that have agreed to sponsor that club. Some may change over the
summer due to staff changes. New clubs may be added if we have a
staff member that comes up with a new and interesting club that
will benefit the students. AR
Book Club - Students read interesting books and discuss them
through a variety of forums. Art
Club - (7th & 8th Grade only - $10.00 art fee required) -
Students enhance their art skills by working individually and in
groups to design various projects through different art forms. Board
Games Club - Board games are used to enhance students'
reasoning and thinking skills. Builders
Club - Sponsored by the Elizabeth City Kiwanis Club (May require
dues) - Students are involved in community and school
projects. Builders Club members work with adult members of the
Kiwanis Club. The club is aligned with the High School Key Club. Cooking
Club (7th & 8th Graders only) - Students work
cooperatively to make cookies and other appetizing, fun foods. Craft
Club - Students will be exposed to methods for creating
various types of crafts through hands on experience. Creative
Writing Club - Young writers develop skills through writing
poems, stories, and other written forms. Creative writing is very
helpful for students that desire to work on the school newspaper
and yearbook staffs in future years. Debate/Public
Speaking/Drama Club - Young orators and thespians develop
skills and techniques for speaking formally in front of large
groups, for arguing points in a constructive way, and for giving
dramatic performances. 4-H
Club - Club members will follow the national 4-H guidelines
and perform services to the school and community as well as
complete 4-H projects. Girls
Dance Team - Young ladies design and perform various types of
dances and step routines. Greeting
Card Club - Club members develop cards for various occasions
by using their hands and by using graphic design on the computer. Girls
on the Run - Young ladies learn proper methods for walking,
running, and eating that improve their stamina and food intake. Hope
Club - Members work with adult members of the Elizabeth City
Hope Club in holding diversity activites in the school and
community. Club members promote and provide opportunities for
students from varying backgrounds to participate together in a
non-threatening manner. Intramurals
Grades 6, 7, 8 - Teams of studetns will compete in sports
related to the sport season. Music/Chorus
Club - Members of the club will learn to write and perform
different types of music. The club members will perform at school
functions. Junior
National Honor Society - 7th & 8th Graders Only - Membership
by Invitation Only - A service organization designed for
students that qualify through academics, character, and community
service. Newspaper
Staff - Students work with a sponsor to produce a school
newspaper. The Staff is made-up of editors, reporters,
photographers, and layout designers. Origami
Club - Club members make different shapes using the Japanese
art form of Origami. S.A.D.D.
Chapter (Students Against Drunk Driving) - Students that
oppose under age drinking and illegal use of drugs develop
displays and presentations to make RRMS students and others aware
of the dangers of under age drinking and the use of illegal drugs. Shape-Up
Club - Students work toward winning the Presidential Physical
Fitness Award. Spirit
Decorating Club - Civic-minded students creatively design ways
to acknowledge EOG celebrations, and other special school
functions and activities. Study
Island - Students use the computer to play math games and to
improve math skills. STEP
- 8th grade boys Only - Young men design and perform a variety
of step routines. The best will perform at school functions. Web
Design - Students design web pages on the computer. Yearbook
Staff - Selected students work with sponsors to design and
create the RRMS yearbook.
