  1. What do you want to see students doing with technology, and how will technology provide them with quality work?

 

 

  • Meet grade level computer competencies and the objectives outlined in the NCSCOS using a wide variety of technology hardware and software.
  • Create quality work products utilizing the Internet, word processing, PowerPoint and other software packages to showcase work toward a variety of audiences and to gain knowledge and skills.
  • Effectively choose and maneuver through Internet bookmarked cites.
  • Use websites for research, assessments, enrichment and remediation activities
  • Create a school newsletter.
  1. How would technology resources be used to provide quality work for students?

 

 

  • Continue participation in STAR and AR programs at all grade levels.
  • Participate in HeartBeeps in grades 1 – 5.
  • Use Study Island to prepare for End-of-Grade tests in grades 2–5 at least once a week for reading & math.
  • Use Lightspan & computers in classroom for FLEX groups, whole groups or individual group projects.
  • Use Internet (ie – real time projects), word processing, PowerPoint, KidPix, Kidspiration, Waterford, Vocabulary Development and other appropriate CDs.
  • Provide staff development opportunities to stay abreast of current trends.
  • Use a variety of software and other computer based resources to design quality lessons/activities.
  • Use computer-based programs to customize, monitor and assess student progress.
  1. How would teachers use technology to design, select and provide quality work to students?

 

  • Use bibliography of all technology resources to plan and prepare quality lessons/activities.
  • Use Internet to obtain and design innovative lessons.
  • Use diagnostic & prescriptive information from AR, STAR, HeartBeeps, Waterford, Study Island & TPRI.
  • Add Accelerated Math when funds are available.  (Added in spring, 2007)
  1. What is the current capacity of your school to implement your vision?

 

 

  • Most staff members attend in-house technology training.
  • Most staff members regularly check voice mail and email.
  • Many staff members use email to communicate with one another and the administration.
  • Some staff members use email to communicate with parents who have access to computers and the Internet.
  • Our school technology committee makes decisions based on district policy.
  • Our school technology assistant and district tech staff will maintain/increase technology capacity.
  • Teachers will use the technology NCSCOS for their grade level.
  • The district Acceptable Use Policy is included in the information packet distributed at the beginning of the year to students/parents.
  • The email address for parents is included on the student information sheet.
  • The video/photography release includes permission to publish student work on the web.
  • Information will be posted on the school web site by the school level web master (and designee).
  1. How will you develop and nurture the leadership capacity of your school to help implement the vision you have in mind?

 

 

  • Fund at least one staff member to attend technology conference during school year.
  • Allocate resources (people, time, space, equipment, money) to meet student and staff needs.
  • Identify appropriate technology, including equipment and programs by facilitating staff development opportunities (“Sampling Day”, categorizing and creating databases, curriculum mapping and lesson planning).
  • Investigate technology integration practices at selected school sites.
  • Advertise up-to-date training opportunities offered at Cyber Campus, COA, ECSU and online programs.
  • Keep abreast of current trends in using technology in a school setting (principal, reading coach, tech assistant, media coordinator, interested staff)
  • Participate in any follow-up programs offered through Principals’ Executive Programs (such as TAGLIT)
  • Provide opportunities for staff and students to use a variety of technology methods to access information, participate in research and use the media resources (media coordinator)
  • Repair and maintain equipment and software, facilitate staff development opportunities and assist staff and students in integrating technology into the curriculum (tech assistant and teacher-leaders)
  • Identify one person per grade level team and department to serve on the technology committee as lead teachers in technology.  These teacher leaders will meet with the technology assistant for updates and methods to help maintain building equipment on their hall throughout the year.  A flow chart will be developed to communicate this structure to all staff.
  • Monitor student progress in grades 2 – 5 once a week for reading and math using Study Island as a coaching tool rather than an assessment.
  1. What is your 3-5 year plan for staff development?

 

 

 

  • Provide release time or stipends for planning sessions.
  • Offer mini lessons to keep staff competent in using programs and equipment (Study Island, AR, HeartBeeps, Internet Scavenger Hunts, KidPix, Kidspiration, eInstruction, electronic report cards and SmartBoards.
  • Train staff members during 2006- 2007 to use Thinkology and Ultimate Writing Center, WebQuest and Web Page Design.
  • Provide training sessions for new staff members as needed.
  • Staff will participate in district staff development as offered throughout the year.
  • Support will be provided by technology assistant, teacher leaders and administration.
  • Funds will be allocated for a staff member to attend a regional/state conference to gain new learning that will be shared in turn-around training with other staff members.
