is a solution to a problem.

For many students today, learning requires more than the typical classroom setting can provide.

Students who, for a number of reasons, have fallen behind their peers in reading skills

need more individual attention than is possible in a classroom setting.

Research shows that children can learn faster and become more self-reliant

when they are taught one-to-one.  The HOSTS program provides this one-to-one contact.

That's why we have established the Help One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) program

at Pasquotank Elementary School.

An equally important benefit to the student is the increase in self-esteem through developing a relationship

with a caring adult.  School districts that use HOSTS have found that student absenteeism and discipline referrals

have decreased because of the positive impact community mentors have on students.
