|
Increase PE from once to twice a week for all students. |
Opportunities for physical activity include:
School wide 5 – 10 minute stretching routine every morning
10 – 15 minute daily recess for K - 5
35 – 40 minute PE class once a week for K - 5
Minimum per week: 110 minutes
Maximum per week: 165 minutes |
Our schedule allows for each classroom to have PE twice a week. (See explanation.)
We need a part-time PE teacher in addition to our full-time position to increase PE from one time a week to twice a week. |
A part-time PE teacher will join our staff beginning August 2007. He will work 2- ½ days week. This will increase student PE classes from once a week to twice a week for all grade levels. |

Our physical education teacher promotes nutrition, the importance of enough rest and exercise by providing physical education once a week, reading aloud to students from newspaper and/or magazine articles on health and nutrition. He displays posters in the multipurpose room to promote good health and sponsors “Jump Rope for Heart”, extracurricular basketball and the AR Challenge which includes parents as well as students.
Grade level teams will be developed throughout the year to promote healthy competition and application of skills taught in various sports. This competitive interaction will help students develop a sense of teamwork, sportsmanship and school spirit.
Our school nurse provides information to classroom teachers to promote good nutrition and exercise.
Food services create and serve breakfast and lunch with attention to healthy eating. |

We have a school nurse stationed at our school who provides information to our staff and students. She keeps our health records up-to-date and audits our medical records. She shares pertinent information with staff regarding health plans and health related topics. She is part-time at our school serving two other schools in our district.
Our science committee will address some of the health issues as they plan activities throughout the year for school wide participation. Our PE teacher is a member of this committee. |
