Yearbook Garage Sale

October 27, 2007

Pictures

The yearbook class had its first garage sale this fall, with a plethora of donated items from students, faculty, and friends of the school.  The rain did not deter our buyers, since we had the good fortune of being able to set up inside.

"What's Cooking at Trigg"

Interdisciplinary school-wide project wins Bright Ideas Grant

During the 2007 - 2008 school year, students will produce a cookbook and market it to the community.  They will be gathering recipes from their families and friends, whom they will simultaneously interview.  Each recipe will be accompanied by a paragraph describing the tie between the recipe and the student's life.  Students will be responsible for the design, composition, editing, and marketing of the book.

The purpose of the project is to reinforce academic skills through a real world, completed project.  Student success with this project will reinforce the positive experience of staying in school.  Their success will make them aware of their need to remain in school to acquire the skills necessary to function and compete in our modern work force.  The project will be giving the students positive community interactions.  The interdisciplinary approach will give students an experience demonstrating that life is not divided into academic disciplines, but requires a well-rounded set of skills.

The Cleanest Cafeteria

with the

Best Food

H.L. Trigg Community School is proud to announce that, during the fall inspection, our cafeteria received a sanitation score of 101.0 !  Way to go, Mrs. Billups !

We also appreciate the tempting meals you prepare for us:  chicken pot pie, chicken fajitas, spaghetti, mouth-watering rolls, sausage biscuits, and more, especially Big Breakfast.  We check the menu calendar every month looking for Big Breakfast.

Keith Bowe

2005 - 2006

Our Mr. Keith Bowe was recognized as the Bus Driver of the year for 2005 - 2006.  We celebrate his award with him, and congratulate him on having received a new bus !   Enjoy that air-conditioning, Mr. Bowe !

Community Involvement

Virtual Car Wash

October 13, 2007

Having planned a car wash for the same day as the garage sale, Trigg's faculty and students awoke to a rainy day.  We could not be too disappointed, however, knowing that the county needed the water.

Our car wash was conducted in collaboration with the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Not to be deterred, they came out in force to help, as did students from Elizabeth City State University and the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

With the rain making the car wash a "wash-out," we conducted a virtual car wash instead.  We were fortunate to receive numerous donations.  Thank you to all who participated and/or donated !

Building and Painting

our new

Walkway

The sound of powerful hammers and the smell of hot tar filled the air at Trigg for several days while the maintenance department was rebuilding our aged walkway.  The high school students and faculty appreciate the results of their efforts.  On a rainy day, navigating between the buildings is considerably drier.  Thank you for taking care of us !

When the walkway was completed, our friends from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church came to help us paint.  They tried to protect our paving with drop sheets, but the passing of feet during class changes overwhelmed the sheets.  Students, mostly from middle school, also swished paint brushes.

Time has worn most of the paint dribbles off the paving.  The paint still glistens, and the walkway protects us.  Thank  you to both groups:  our maintenance department, and our church partners.

Landscaping

in the

Courtyard

Our courtyard had some nice-looking furniture, but was still not the most enticing place for eating lunch or holding class outside.  The members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church improved the ambience by working with our middle school to landscape the courtyard.  They weeded; they planted; they mulched.  The results were spectacular !
