Happy December!

We are so excited about multiplication!  We are working on strategies to add quickly, to add with regrouping (that’s carrying for us “old” folks J ), and to add the same addend multiple times – VOILA – MULTIPLICATION.  We are making up story problems (How many legs on 3 spiders?   How many ears on 12 children?  How many wheels on 8 tricycles?).  We are using drawings and base-10 blocks to show and prove our answers.  We are also working on subtraction with regrouping (that’s borrowing for us J folks).  Again, we show this with our base-10 blocks as well as drawings to represent them.  I encourage everyone to know their addition and subtraction facts to 20 (without using fingers).  We are starting to memorize our multiplication facts, so get started KNOWING those addition and subtraction facts!

Dates to look forward to are:

December 6 – Interim Reports go home

December 19 – Early Release

December 20 – January 1 – Christmas Break

January 9 – Field Trip to the ECSU Planetarium

EVERY FRIDAY – Reading Logs due (and signed by parent/guardian)

Have a wonderful Christmas and a blessed New Year.

Mrs. Rowsey
